September 1, 2008 .After being married to Dave for more than 4 years, I’ve come to realize that food plays a major part in managing his bipolar disorder symptoms of, mood swings, poor sleep patterns, vacillating energy cycles, and his general outlook on life. He was raised on the traditional American country diet, in Dillon, MT, by a mother and grandmother who were excellent cooks. They prepared large meals for all the family, plus any visiting children, and the farm workers as well. It was a pleasure to sit at their table! Pleasurable to eat and pleasurable to taste, but detrimental to the overall health of anyone, much less a person with symptoms of childhood bipolar disorder. The sugar and the white flour are the main culprits, but nowadays you can add all the processed foods from the grocery store to the list of foods that actually hurt us.
If you want to lessen the bipolar disorder symptoms of depression, anxiety, mood swings in general, attitudes toward people and life…then I urge you to modify your diet or that of your loved one. It WILL have an impact! We’ve proven it by experience and we’ve made a management plan for daily treatment of bipolar disorder, useful even for bipolar children. These tips can be applied for people of all ages, including bipolar children, including all your loved ones.
