Bipolar Stresses

Posted by David B. and Dianne Hansen | April 7, 2009 .

The bipolar brain is commanding and forceful, but we’re beginning to believe that it’s more manageable than most people recognize. Wellness in general and wellness for the bipolar person is attainable. It’s the sustained quality of health in both your body and your mind as the result of a deliberate effort.

We don’t advocate fads here. Fads try to achieve health through the latest quick fix. True wellness for the bipolar person (or anyone else!) cannot be achieved without a decision to make PERMANENT lifestyle changes. Temporary fixes just don’t last…

We recognize three sources of stress and I’m sure you’ll agree:

  • Physical stress
  • Chemical stress
  • Emotional stress

Physical stressors reduce your bodily functions, causing you to feel tired/weak/strange and can include:

  • Allergens like auto emissions, latex, nicotine, pollen, pollution, smoke, specific foods, and toxic chemical residues
  • Bacteria and viruses causing infections and breaking down your immune system (also reducing the supply of nutrients)
  • Dehydration is incredibly common and the brain is first affected (the body stores water for the sake of the brain and will release water when assured of a fresh supply coming in). Nothing but water satisfies.
  • Exercise and exertion stresses the body.
  • Fast foods are toxic and hurt your brain. Believe it. Substances like hydrogenated fats, trans fats, artificial coloring agents, artificial taste enhancers, artificial appetite appeasers, artificial aromatic agents, artificial sweetening agents, artificial fats, and artificial preservatives are totally toxic to your entire self.
  • Fungi and fungal infections (yeast infections like candida) are harmful to all living things. Highly poisonous. Drugs cause yeast infections.
  • Genetically altered foods are known to cause asthma, attention problems, balance problems behavioral problems, metabolic problems, perceptual problems, sexual dysfunctions and other disorders.
  • Headaches and migraines are a major cause of stress (and stress is a major cause of headaches!)
  • Lack of sleep, no matter the cause, is a source of deeply felt stress.
  • Medical disorders, whether recognized and being treated or whether unknown, whether improving or not, are are stressful.
  • Microwave radiation from cell phones, microwave ovens, portable radios and telephones, tv’s, all AC power systems in private homes and public buildings cause bodily harm or stress.
  • Nutritional deficiencies (from disease or disorders, poor nutrition or poor absorption) are known to hurt and stress your Self.
  • Pain of any kind is a major cause of stress (this includes mental pain).
  • Parasites, including thousands of medically undetectable parasites known to infest your body, sap your nutrition and energy, causing stress.

Chemical stressors are innumerable and work against you:

  • Various produce is layered with 64 different pesticides on the skins. You ingest between eight to fifteen pesticides a day…
  • Granulated sugar is no more than chemicals (you probably ingest 140 pounds/year).
  • Irradiation of food reduces your life force and greatly diminishes the food values of what you eat. All non-American foods are required by law to be irradiated before entering U.S. food supply.
  • Soft drinks are so hurtful a capful will turn your body acidic. HARMFUL! Does the typical bipolar person drink sodas?
  • Heavy metals including arsenic, mercury and lead are implicated in adrenal, bone, bone marrow, brain, circulatory system, ear, eye, gall bladder, heart, intestinal, kidney, liver, lung, lymphatic system, pancreas, pituitary, skin, spleen, throat, thyroid, thymus and other problems…of course causing stress.
  • Vaccines contain mercury, formaldehyde, aluminum, hydrochloric acid, latex, MSG, and ethylene glycol (found in antifreeze).
  • Chemicals like cleaning agents, fungicides, growth hormones, herbicides, insecticides, paints, and most man-made chemicals attack your immune system, impair your breathing and oxygen intake, reduce your ability to absorb nutrients and raise the acidity of your body’s cells….causing stress.
  • Prescription drugs and other synthetic and toxic chemicals are implicated in every physical and mental disease, disorder, or condition known to science.  (see Natural Therapies Certification Board)
  • Anti-depressants cause depression.
  • Psychotropic, mind-boggling drugs harm you in every way possible, leading to uncontrolled behaviors.

Emotional stressors include:

  • Emotional issues whether unresolved traumatic events or being resolved or already resolved have been shown to cause dire stress.
  • Pyschological conditions of course cause stress.
  • Low self concept can be caused by bacterial or fungal or viral infections OR by poor nutrition, toxic chemicals, hormonal imbalances or other means. All low self concept is harmful to your Self.
  • Employment and doing work you don’t Enjoy/Love To Do…  make for terrific daily stress.
  • Financial problems are hard to get away from, constantly nagging and stressing.
  • Overworking is bad and stressful.
  • Mental trauma or pain causes you harm. Harm is stress.
  • Relationship problems are tough, highly stressful.

Bipolar disorder doesn’t just happen. There are stressors and there are management techniques and products and ways of thinking to control your body, mind, and personality, and even your environment. Sorry to say it can seem cyclical, an unending circle of bipolar disorder symptoms that cause you stress AND stressors that bring out bipolar symptoms.
